The chemical engineering department started with inception of institute in 2004 with intake of 60. It increased its intake to 120 in 2009. It has fully fledged facility for UG chemical engineering. Beside regular engineering program, department plans to offer consultancy in area of process development, process modification and waste treatment. It has strong ties with industries nearby Vapi industrial zone. Its faculties are highly experienced and well learned chemical engineers. Department has also plan to indulge into activities like environment audit, management adequacy certification and process improvisation. It offers industries based project to it final year students. The facility available in the department are popular and is being widely used by offering its infrastructure to students of other institute like, GEC Surat, GEC Bharuch and IE students.

Program Specfic Outcome (PSOs)

  • Graduates will be able to apply concept of process design, synthesis, control, simulation and optimization to solve chemical engineering problems.
  • Graduates will be able to apply their chemical engineering skills in dealing with social, industrial and environmental requirements towards sustainable development.

Labs


Studying this subject the students will learn about the extraction and production of oil and gas to meet energy needs, as well as refining of crude oil for a wide spectrum of useful products such as petrochemicals, Chemicals, Plastics. Introduction with the petroleum refinery worldwide,Develop knowledge of different refining processes,Develop knowledge of safety and pollution control in the refining industries,To find the suitable refining technology for maximizing the gasoline yield and also learn about testing of petroleum products like smoke point,flesh point and fire point,softening point,penetration index,Aniline point, redwood viscometer, Cloud  point and pour point ,ASTM distillation.
The Fluid Mechanics Laboratory covers practical aspects of fluid flow for both compressible and incompressible fluids and its properties. Students will be able to understand the effects of friction through different diameters of pipes. Also flow measurement through various flow measuring equipment is done in fluid flow operation laboratory
In heat transfer, study about principles of Heat Transfer processes on Forced and Free Convection Equipment, emissivity Apparatus, Critical heat flux apparatus, Boltzman’s Apparatus, Parallel and Counter flow heat transfer apparatus & Heat Exchangers and industrial applications.

B.E. Chemical students perform Chemistry / Applied Chemistry / Unit Processes & Chemical Technology experiments in this laboratory. Here students can perform volumetric analysis and physical chemistry experiments in the chemistry and applied chemistry laboratory. They can synthesize organic dyes and drugs compounds during the experiments in the subject of Unit Processes & Chemical Technology. They can use instruments like BOD incubator, COD analyser, pH meter, TDS, Turbidity meter, Colony count

The purpose of this course is to introduce the undergraduate students with the most important separation equipments in the process industry, and provide proper understanding of unit operations.Students will learn about the diffusional mass transfer, Operation of cooling tower will be clearly understood,Operation of Dryer will be understood,Student will understand the mechanism of crystallization and absorption,Distillation of binary solution,Pack tower and Tray tower,Extraction and leaching.
To study process technologies of various organic and inorganic process industries.
Ability to understand the manufacturing of various inorganic and organic chemicals,Ability to understand the process flow diagram and various process parameters,Ability to identify and solve engineering problems during production
Chemical reaction engineering subject is to apply knowledge from calculus, differential equations, thermodynamics, general chemistry, and material and energy balances to solve reactor design problems, To examine reaction rate data to determine rate laws, and to use them to design chemical reactors, To simulate several types of reactors in order to choose the most appropriate reactor for a given need, To design chemical reactors with associated cooling/heating equipment.Develop rate laws for homogeneous reactions,Design of ideal reactors for single and complex reactions,Develop skills to choose the right reactor among single, multiple, recycle reactor, etc.

The aim of this course to give up-to-date knowledge for designing the process equipment and mechanical design such as heat and mass transfer equipment used in chemical process plants.After undergoing this course the students will have the knowledge to analyze a problem and finding a process design method for heat and mass transfer equipment used in chemical plants especially in heat exchangers and distillation columns,reaction vessel and supports use for distillation column and reaction vessel. 

DESIGN OF EQUIPMENT:
1) Mechanical and Process design of Reaction vessel
2) Mechanical and process design of shell & tube heat exchanger.
3) Mechanical and process design of sieve tray distillation column.

To make the students understand physical systems in chemical engineering and to develop their mathematical models and solutions for these models. The students will also learn to use the commercial process simulators.Understand the important physical phenomena from the problem statement,Develop model equations for the given system,Demonstrate the model solving ability for various processes/unit operations,Demonstrate the ability to use a process simulation.
